Several years ago while I was having morning coffee at the Dunn Brothers coffee shop on Madison Avenue in Mankato, a place which has unfortunately closed since then, the owner, who I knew, came over to me and said that I should come up with the top 10 psychological recommendations for people, much in the way that David Letterman used to present his top 10 categories on his show. She said that she would post them in the shop. I laughed at first, but then my curiosity got peaked and I started thinking about the lessons and bits and pieces of wisdom about human behavior and life that I acquired over the last 45 years of my work as a psychologist. So, I started a list, and, before I knew it, it grew to around 20 top 10 recommendations.
Since the coffee shop closed before we could start posting these ideas, they sat on my desk idly until recently when I started thinking about our Facebook page, my blog and things that we could post that might be of interest to people. I pulled the list out and reviewed my written ideas and found that they still make sense to me. So, I decided to start listing them every few days for people to see and react to, and for people to ask questions if they want more information on those thoughts, which I will call Lessons. (I thought about calling them Deep Thoughts, but that was already used on Saturday Nite Live.) These lessons will not be in any order of importance or priority.
